A few days ago I woke up and decided to book the plane tickets for my sister and I to go to Dubai for a few days, we’ll spend our birthday there. In the past, Dubai trips have always been primarily for shopping but this time we’re hoping to incorporate some activities while we’re there. That said, we do intend to go shopping for a few things. I want to get the Meta smart glasses, but I don’t know if I’ll have to purchase online or if it’s something I’ll be able to find at a store somewhere. I’m thinking of going for the Wayfarer but I don’t know yet if I should go for the clear to green transitions version or the classic green.
The transitions one is useful because I’ll be able to use it indoors as well as outdoors (I can’t see well if the lens is too dark). But my eyes are pretty sensitive to bright light now so I will definitely need darker glasses when I’m outdoors. The issue is that I don’t actually spend a lot of time under the sun where the lens would shift from clear to dark. From what I know, it will not shift when I’m in a car or under some kind of shade, and that it will only shift if I’m literally outdoors in direct sunlight. I’ll have to look into this feature. The classic green would be most suitable for me outdoors, but if I wanted to video capture something indoors, I wouldn’t be able to see much of whatever it is I want to record because I can’t see shit with dark glasses. That said, I could always just use my phone if I wanted to record something indoors. Whereas outdoors it would be more convenient to use the glasses. I want to get into uploading more reels to my social media accounts this year so it would be great to have a pair of the glasses.
Yesterday I met with one of my friends (I actually mean more of an acquaintance) who treated me for lunch so we could discuss AI and update each other on happenings in our lives. It’s funny how I actually have a few friends that I meet about once or twice a year just to update ourselves on each others’ lives. He has scheduled another meetup end of this month but this time with a few others who might be interested in AI. I think it might be useful for me to be just a little more social this year, especially because I want to start a club, and knowing more people might expand my horizons. After all, isn’t one person’s network equivalent to their net worth?
Going back to the topic of Dubai, when my mother found out that we were going, she seemed upset that she wasn’t. So today we went by her place and told her that we already purchased her ticket so she could join us. Her reaction was just terrible – it was something along the lines of ‘no, it’s too late, I don’t want to, don’t waste money.’ We actually hadn’t purchased her ticket (thank goodness!). Her reaction didn’t really surprise me to be honest. When my sister and I were discussing whether or not to take my mother to Dubai with us, I told my sister that I was a bit hesitant to because in 2022 when I took my mother there, she was a Debbie downer. I had wanted to visit the World Expo and also take the subway to different places and each time she kept wanting to push it to another day so we later didn’t have time and I ended up missing out on the experience. Whenever we’d go shopping, she would also just walk out and sit outside waiting for me, instead of letting me know that she wanted to go and we’d checkout together. I remember telling my sister that we’re going to expect my mother to be happy to go, but she’s probably going to react differently from what we expect and funny enough, that’s exactly what happened today.
We didn’t buy her ticket because we already booked our hotel room (a twin room). My mother has major anxiety whenever we travel to anywhere for some reason so she wouldn’t be able to stay in a hotel room on her own. So I contacted the hotel so I could know whether we could put an extra bed or mattress in the room or if I would have to book another room and if that room can be a joined one. I was going to purchase her ticket right after we got a response from the hotel, but we got to my mother’s house before the hotel responded. What a great thing that we didn’t purchase her ticket, let alone book her hotel room! It would have been such a hassle to cancel the bookings, and we would have most likely lost money on cancellation fees.
