I’m writing this a little bit early today because I want to watch a movie before bed. I’ll be watching The 2 Popes (2019). My twin sister has been recommending it to me for years so I’ve decided to finally watch the movie. I’m expecting to fall asleep halfway through it because it’s almost 8pm and I’m already getting sleepy. I might actually play a few songs on Beat Saber first, the Quest has been on recharge all day, completely forgot about it. This should energize me a bit.
Yet another uneventful day, which I consider to be perfect. My day starts out with the whole lounging around until lunchtime, I had a stick of durian, a cup of decaf tea with oat milk, a small portion of vegan Bolognese spaghetti and some chocolate chip cookies.
Here’s a random picture I took of my soon-to-be 14 year-old kid:
My sister and I then had to go do a delivery to the jetty, and then we went to ISPC, Bois de Rose for me to restock on edamame, which is my current addiction. On our way back we made a quick stop at Good Health Pharmacy, Mont Fleuri. I had to buy my month’s worth of Premarin 0.625mg (vegetarian, not vegan) and Regesterone 5mg (progestin) which I started 2 years ago. I do have a prescription of these but I don’t take the prescription with me because as I’ve mentioned before, you can literally walk into a pharmacy here in Seychelles and simply ask them for prescription medication and they’ll give it to you. Last month I brought my prescription with me and the “pharmacist” there was confused. He said “where did you get this?” and a whole bunch of other questions. Usually, if you ask for prescription meds without a prescription, they will take your name, number and NIN. Today, it was a bit different. The notebook didn’t even include my phone number nor did it include my NIN. They only asked for my name and my address.
That same Indian/expat “pharmacist” then asked me why I’m taking both estrogen and progestin. I said “HRT” and he said “but why both?” I was so confused and irritated by his reaction, that I had to quickly bite my tongue and didn’t respond. I was confused because I would assume that a pharmacist would know why a 41 year-old woman would have to take a combination of both estrogen and progestin, and why he would also see me back each month. I did pharmacology as a module, in fact I remember it being one of the most difficult modules. We had to know the mechanism of action, side effects, adverse effects, contraindications, etc. of a huge list of drugs. I would expect someone who studied pharmacology as a degree would know so much more than I could ever know yet here we are. If this guy irritates me next month when I go get another box, I will literally ask him if he is a pharmacist and if he says yes, I will do some community service by explaining to him why some unfortunate 41 year-old women have to take the estrogen + progestin combo. Anyone in the pharmacy can also sit in for the lecture.
We then decided to visit my mother who lives just a few minutes away by car. She’s got a nice view, which I enjoy taking pictures of. We also saw 2 eagle rays swimming close to the shoreline.
She seemed happy to see us but then we had a small argument after talking about someone who we were supposed to have a small business deal with, when we were first introduced to him by my mother the guy seemed reluctant to move forward with the idea (this is what my sister and I felt by his awkward reaction to what my mother was proposing). We did exchange Whatsapp numbers but there were never any interactions between us after the exchange. Anyway, my mother was being controlling by interfering, instructing us to talk to him in a certain way “because he is a big deal”.
Honestly, my mother has what we call “poor people mentality” and one of the way this manifests is by believing that just because someone is wealthy, it means they are a “big deal” and just because you think someone is a “big deal” she thinks I have to kneel down before him and act like I’m in some way inferior because I’m not rich. Last I checked, all my bills are paid each month – by me – with no assistance from anybody else. I am in no way below anybody and in no way is anybody below me – and I’ve always stood firm about this. A business deal is a mutual transaction, not a charity. So if he doesn’t want to do business with us, then we can just drop the idea and leave it at that. He has my number, if he felt he could do with our business, he doesn’t have to go through anybody but me, simple as.
Last night my twin sister sent me a meme informing me that most Oreo flavours are incidentally vegan. I was ecstatic! I haven’t had Oreos in forever. I still believe the original one is the most delicious, but the peanut butter one is also pretty good, albeit quite hard to come by. I saw mini-Oreos at Veni, Plaisance this evening on my way back home so I purchased a pack.
